Tomorrow, 24 April 2024, the Free Market Foundation (FMF)’s CEO David Ansara and Head of Policy Martin van Staden will brief the media about the manifesto for the Section 12 Initiative for a #SaferSouthAfrica, which will be launched at an evening event that same day.

South Africa is considered one of the most unsafe societies globally, with a collapsed criminal justice system. Yet, instead of trying to make South Africa safer by addressing and combating real crime, the state is increasingly concentrating its efforts on criminalising victimless offences, diverting attention and resources away from more pressing safety concerns.

The FMF will launch its manifesto that evening in a wide-ranging discussion between Ansara, Van Staden, and FMF Policy Officer Zakhele Mthembu, outlining what the government must to do turn the corner on crime in South Africa.

We will also launch a series of four billboards that will be flighted across Johannesburg for the next five weeks until election day. A preview of these will be screened at the event.

Members of the media are invited to attend the media briefing, where FMF CEO David Ansara and Head of Policy Martin van Staden will unpack the justice reforms necessary to address violent crime in South Africa.

The briefing will commence as follows:

Date: 24 April 2024

Time: 12h00

Venue: Free Market Foundation 21 Rockridge Road Northwards House Parktown, Johannesburg

Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/b3GyWB34uRnTEQNM8

Ends.
