FMF 2026 submission on “Fair Pay Bill”

National Assembly

Summary

South Africa does not require more labour regulation; it requires more growth, more investment, more entrepreneurship, more competition, more flexibility and more freedom. The path to genuine prosperity and broad-based opportunity lies not in the ever-expanding state management of voluntary economic relations, but in the restoration of the institutional conditions under which free individuals may produce, trade, innovate, employ and prosper. The Free Market Foundation therefore urges the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour, and ultimately the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces, to reject the “Fair Pay Bill” unequivocally and without reservation, in its entirety.
